02 - 05 September 2025, NOVA University, Lisbon, Portugal

Last week, two of our project members had the opportunity to present and attend the GSMERH 2025.

Under the theme “Migration as a driver of a healthy, racism-free, multi-ethnic world. A call to action to close the equity gap in health.”, the summit brought together experts from research, practice, and policy to discuss key issues at the intersections of healthcare, migration, ethnicity, and equity — with a strong focus on removing barriers and improving access to care worldwide.

We were honoured to contribute with two presentations:

🎤 Overcoming language barriers in mental healthcare through communication with technological tools – A qualitative study (presented by Annika Kreienbrinck)

🎤 ‘The doctor doesn’t understand Xhosa and the service user doesn’t understand English’. Exploring the role of security guards acting as informal interpreters in psychiatric care in South Africa (presented by Saskia Hanft-Robert)

Many thanks to the organisers and attendants for an inspiring event and the chance to exchange with colleagues from around the world! 🌍💬
